From here visitors journey back in time to the Neolithic Period, Bronze Age and Iron Age with a visit to Rathcroghan Mound, and the surrounding monuments. Continue to our next hotel, Kilronan Castle. Built in the 18th century, Kilronan Castle welcomes its guests through a set of magnificent medieval gates, at the top of a meandering driveway, through an ancient forest—which is surrounded by fifty acres of lush green estate. The castle rests beside a beautiful lough (lake), making the castle look like something straight out of a fairytale.

Yeats, whose grave is in the churchyard and marked with a simple headstone inscription, ”cast a cold eye on life, on death, horseman, pass by”. The graveyard also contains a high cross, a lovely chapel, and nearby is the site of a 6th century monastery. We will visit the Belleek Pottery Museum, where you will step back in history—the museum contains pieces dating back to 1857, when the pottery was first started.

Day 7 - September 27 - Saturday

Donegal. Early departure today with our first stop at Slieve League Cliffs. Rising almost 2000 ft / 598 m from the Atlantic Ocean, Slieve League is known as one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe. There is no doubt that it is one of the most magnificent views in Ireland. Slieve League is almost three times the height of its Clare cousins, the Cliffs of Moher, and whilst standing at the viewing point on the Cliff, an amazing sea vista and landscape opens up before your eyes. From this point you can see across Donegal Bay to neighboring counties Leitrim, Sligo and Mayo, and when looking out to the west the view is of the vast Atlantic ocean as far as the eye can see. From the Northwest you will be able to see Rathlin O’Byrne Island and Glencolmcille. At the base of the Cliffs, look out for the ‘Giants Desk and Chair’ which is a key part of history. We continue to Donegal Craft Village and then the village of Killybeggs, where you can have lunch on your own.

Founded in the late 5th century by Saint Buithe, who died around 521, this was an important centre of religion and learning, until the founding of nearby Mellifont Abbey in 1142. The site houses two churches built in the 14th century or later and an earlier round tower, but it is most famous for its 10th century high crosses.
